Re: The Gay Thread

saw, wouldn't variables of enviroments that people live in, what they're exposed to as a child, teen, and early adulthood? including, friends, family, events that happen in life.

just life in general?

maybe they were born sometimes mentally unstable, maybe seeing, hearing, or any other sense, drove them over the edge.

then combine that with the power of choice, you'd have nearly any person in general.

Re: The Gay Thread

I dont think gay relationships are immoral, if two people love eachother dearly (and are able to make that decision e.g. not a child and an adult or closely related) then they are free to enter a relationship.

Now to the issue of gay sex, this may sound crude but i'm not bothered where someone sticks something as long it is consentual.

Gay marriage is something I however I don't realy agree with, if it's a civil agreement and they have the same benefits and legal status as a married couple then thats fair enough, I just believe that marriage is between a man a women, if you disagree then fair enough =)

@ Dusky - Your writing is wonderfully articulate and a pleasure to read. I can tell you really have looked into this and thought it through.

@ AguinaRPG - Funny thing, as much as you threw around accusations of hate, the only one I see here actually being hateful is ... well ... you. Out of the heart the mouth speaks, my friend.

~~~
I haven't yet seen anyone draw the distinction between desires and actions, although you kinda teased at it a bit, John.
If you accept the premise that homosexual sex is wrong / unnatural / what have you, and you also accept the premise that cheating on your spouse is wrong, wanting either one of those isn't (by itself) wrong. It's enabling it and acting on it that is wrong. It would be just as wrong for me to have sex with a man who's not my husband as it would be to have sex with a woman. If Vin Diesel propositioned me, it would feel more natural to go with it than to walk away; but I would choose to walk away because I believe it's wrong. If a woman I found attractive propositioned me (and I have found women attractive before), once again, I would choose to walk away because it's wrong. What any of us wants or thinks or feels is of secondary concern to what is right or wrong.
That said, the issue then becomes what is right and wrong with regard to sex? I know what God says and all, and I've read all the "save sex 'till marriage" literature, but I have yet to be able to sufficiently understand and articulate the "why" in a way that my 19-yr-old self would believe. So I'll leave that one alone.
As far as what is "natural," it's invalid to say that whatever is found somewhere in nature at some point in history is normal. Picture a bell curve representing a continuum of various types of sexual behavior found and documented in nature. (And yes, John, I know you're already familiar with simple math.) Behaviors found more often than not would be toward the middle and would be considered "normal / natural." Behaviors found more rarely (ex. 3-5% of the population) would be toward the outside and would be considered "not normal / unnatural."
So toward the middle we would find vanilla heterosexual sex, masturbation, and probably vibrators. Toward the outside we would find homosexuality, probably S&M, and some less benign behaviors. Where would we draw the line as far as what is "natural" or "unnatural"? It's a judgment call, but it also depends heavily on what the purpose of sex is.
Not going to get into a religious debate or anything, so I'm just going to comment based on scientific evidence with one sentence:
You can't open a door with another lock.
