The Gay Thread

The question of homosexuality.
This thread has been going on in part on the regular forums and I think it's time we brought it here for an orderly discussion. Some ground rules because this is such a hot button topic:

1.) Please clearly state your personal opinion on weather it is moral/immoral/natural/unnatural

2.) Please state specific reasons why you hold that opinion. ie: personal experience/scientific studies/sociological studies/religious specifics.

3.) Assuming your opinion could be changed what information would it take to change it.

4.) Try to remain objective and non personal. For example you may say: "I believe the homosexual lifestyle is a sin with consequences of similar sin." You may not say things like: "Gays are going straight to hell." You may say: "I think Christian beliefs are homophobic" You may not say: "Dusky is an intolerant, close minded homophobe."

This is intended to be a civil and intelligent debate. By ignoring the ground rules for the debate and making posts purely based on emotions or groundless attacks and accusations you weaken the standing of your opinion.

Re: The Gay Thread

I believe same sex sexuality is both immoral and unnatural. I believe it is unnatural because biologically and physiologically men and men and women and women were not designed to partner. Standing a naked man and a naked woman next to one another is evidence enough of roles each gender is meant to fulfill in a mated relationship. "Evidence" is often cited in the animal kingdom that homosexuality occurs naturally, however I have yet to see evidence that convinces me that homosexual animal pairings are a result of preference rather than rare cases of confusion and lack of available mates. Furthermore, humanity has a sense of conscience and intellect that is not rivaled in all the animal kingdom and I think it's demeaning for it to be dictated that humanity has no more control over it's choices than animals do.
We are capable of deciding for ourselves. While we may not be able to will into existence a mate for ourselves, it is within our power to abstain from mating behavior until we meet an appropriate partner. If we are able to control this urge, and other species are not, it stands up to logic that there is reason behind it.

I believe homosexuality is immoral because I espouse a bibilical and Christian world view. My faith is supported by personal experience and logic in other areas of life and morality, and I am obligated to maintain a "by the book" belief system as a result. My desire to shun what I and my fellow Christians refer to as "sin" is rooted in in a belief that God, as a divine father figure, wants what is best for the "children" he loves, and homosexuality, like all sinful lifestyles is frought with dangerous and unpleasant consequences, confirming my hypothesis that God places a prohibition on homosexuality and other sin, because it hurts us.

At this time it is extremely unlikely for my opinion on this matter to change. My belief stems from my faith, and all information I have gathered supports my religious hypothesis. For it to change It would have to be proven to me that Christianity is a lie and humanity would have to come to a state of complete androgyny with men and women practically indistinguishable.
I would also like to throw in, that as part of my belief system I do not hold what I refer to as "sinful lifestyles" to a sliding scale of severity. A man or woman living the homosexual lifestyle is no different to me in severity to a man or woman who lives a heterosexual promiscuous lifestyle, or a person who earns $50000 a year as a fake homeless panhandler. A life built around an immoral lifestyle is the same, no matter what the sin is. James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it.

I believe that homosexuality is natural. Homosexuals are born homosexual and the fact that christianity and other religions frown upon it is just homophobic and intolerant of them. Of course they are born that way just as an autistic person is born autistic. Homosexuality isn't passed down through a gene pool or anything, It's just a birth defect, and when i say that i say it with no hate towards the homosexual community.

As I see it it is unatural think about it if everyone was gay the human race would cease to exist how could that be natural. In every species male and females go together why do humans in their confusion see it otherwise. As a Christian i have to agree with the Bible its an abomination and about the homophobic comment its not that were homophobic its just not the way we were meant to be. Male+Female=a blessing(a child) Male+Male=what nothing and even then theyre always STDs and many other complications

Man, dusky stole what I was gonna say, bummer. Adding onto that though, another reason I dislike homosexual relationships (not the main reason, that would be the Bible), Is that their almost always sex-oriented. This conflicts with my belief that relationships can only be enjoyed to the fullest when sex is not the main reason for the relationship (or one of them). I see homosexuality as sexual confusion in its purest form, people who want sex so bad and cannot have it with the other gender so they turn to their own. Of all the gay relationships I have seen, all of them have focused on sex, which I see as only half a relationship. Of course, non homosexual people have relationships like this too, just look at most high school relationships. My opinion definitly will not change, although that doesn't mean that I hate homosexuals because their different. I just don't like seeing people not enjoying life to its fullest. Lastly, I find the word "Homophobic" and every permutation of the word to be horrible misused outside of its actual definition, because every time I see people calling another homophobic, it is never actually a phobia, or a homosexual situation.

Edit: Sorry for the late post, was at a sports camp.

I think that homosexuality is unnatural and yet a moral choice. Something I thought of recently is that the planet has not got enough resources to sustain us at our current rate. But if more people were homosexual, there would be less childeren to use the planet's resources.

Also, dusky, You point out that you believe that "humanity has a sense of conscience and intellect that is not rivaled in all the animal kingdom"

If this is true, doesn't it mean that if humans choose to be homosexual, then it's okay? Or do you believe that homosexuality is simply a lack of mates?

Many homosexual people would point out to you in no uncertain terms that their choice was indeed a choice, and not simply "plan B".

I was going to type more, but I've forgotten it.

Edit: My opinions would be changed if it could be conclusively proven that all homosexuals will go for a opposite sex relationship if given the chance.

And do we have proof of that? Not trying to be mean, but a statement isn't enough to make a point valid.

Sorry, but I can't let you get away with not reading other people's posts.
